The family of Louis Joseph Assoun regret to announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 with his family by his side at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born October 28, 1941, Lou was the third brother of eight and with one sister were brought up on Lingan Road and were the children of the late Reginald ‘Reg’ and Helen (O’Day) Assoun.
For Louis, a good majority of his life was dedicated to the Sydney Steel Corp / Coke ovens, and the Tar Ponds leading up to his retirement.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Nurses and Doctors of the CCU, who provided exemplary care and compassion to Lou during the past few days.
Louis is survived by his four sons, Reg (Darlene), Brent (Sylvia), Dean, and Keith (Andy). He is also survived by his daughter, Selina Woodworth; brothers, Ken (Dorothy), Jim, Kevin (Brenda), Glen; sister, Kim (Edward) Ivany; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Lou was predeceased by his brothers, David, John and Ronald. He is also predeceased by his ever-loving friend, Evelyn Gould.
As per Lou’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Louis Joseph Assoun will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, June 14, 2019. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 4-5 p.m. with service to follow at 5 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the funeral home reception area following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Lung association.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
