It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of James Murphy, 70, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Wednesday, April 10, 2019.
Born in Whitney Pier, Jim was the son of the late James Francis and Evelyn (Keough) Murphy. He lived most of his life at Northside East Bay.
Jim worked hard to provide for his family at Sydney Steel for over thirty years.
Jim is survived by his three daughters, Rosemarie (Jeff Earle), Calgary, Jocelyn (Albert Goyetche), East Bay and Kelly (Pierre LaChance), Edmonton; five grandchildren, Ashley, Leah, Emma, Julia, Jake, Matthew and one great-grandson, Frank. Jim will also be missed by his loving wife, Betty Dowling and her children, Elizabeth (Ed Bays), Katie (Robert Halliday), Amy (Josh Orde) and grandchildren, Anna, Bria, Clara and Tyson. Jim is also survived by his sisters, Anne Marie Quinn and Jane Wukitsch; brothers, Terry, Adrian, Blair, Barry, Bruce, Kevin, Father Paul, Sheldon and Gordie as well as his extended family.
Besides his parents, James was predeceased by his first wife, Darlene Tomko.
Funeral Mass for the late James Murphy will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the Pier Community Funeral Home reception area following the service. Family flowers only please.
Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Bay at a later date.
Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund, East Bay.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Jimmy always had an acknowledgement for me from his seat in the balcony of the Church in East Bay on the occasions when I would be back home and attending Sunday services.
