71, Middle River

It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of John James Curley on November 14, 2011 in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.

Born in Middle River, Victoria County, John was the son of the late Francis and Annie (MacLennan) Curley.

John worked for many years for the Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Middle River Volunteer Fire Department and the Middle River Highland Seniors Club. John was known for his love of haymaking and dances at the community hall. He was always willing to give a helping hand whenever it was needed.

John is survived by sisters, Anna (Donald) Fraser, Sharon (Robert) Hart, both of Margaree Valley, Hilda (Wayne) MacInnis, Inverness, Helen (Blair) Fraser, Gail (Malcolm) MacRae, both of Middle River, Maureen (Leslie) Hazelton, Hunters Mountain; and brothers, Donald, Halifax, Brian (Donna), Enfield, Carl (Heather), Margaree Valley, Keith (Leah), Kentville. He is also survived by two aunts, Mary MacLennan, Baddeck and Jean MacLennan, Manitoba, as well as many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John is predeceased by an infant sister and a nephew.
Visitation for the late John James Curley will be held in the Middle River Community Hall, Middle River on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 2-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Farquharson Memorial Church, Middle River with Rev. Allison Etter officiating. Burial will take place in Middle River Cemetery, Middle River.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, MS Society or charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
