Sydney

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Lydia Fraser on Saturday, April 12, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Born in Sydney on November 29, 1962, Lydia was the daughter of the late Florian and Rose Leblanc.

Lydia is survived by her husband, Brian; two sons, Matthew (Jayme), and David (Sayeh); siblings, Marion (Seldon) MacKenzie, Ruth (Dennis) Shea, Paul (the late Brenda) LeBlanc, and Glenda (Raymond) Martin; as well as many sisters and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Lydia met Brian while in her first year of university and they could always be found laughing and dancing any chance they had. She was immediately accepted into Brian’s large family and the two were wed on September 20, 1986. They welcomed two boys into the world who she always put first and provided an endless amount of love and support.

Lydia was proud to serve her community as a pharmacist, creating many lasting relationships with her patients. She was an endless source of knowledge and comfort to her family and friends who reached out, even late at night, with any health-related questions.

From an early age, one of Lydia’s favourite places was at the family bungalow in Northside East Bay. She spent many summers there, eventually bringing her own family to share the joy. Lydia loved reading while cuddling with her puppies (Fiona and Bobby) and loved spending time with all of her family any time that she could.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Cape Breton for the care and comfort they provided Lydia in her time of need.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Lydia Fraser will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, April 17, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, at a later date.

Donations in memory of Lydia may be made to Hospice Cape Breton or the SPCA.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Sending my sincere condolences to Brian & sons, and the Leblanc family. I pray God will bring you all Strength, Comfort and Peace. I have fond memories of Lydia when we were children as our families were so close; Christmas evenings together and many summers in East Bay.
If there’s an East Bay in heaven, her kind spirit is surely there.
