The family of June E. (Dickson) Usher are saddened to announce her passing on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness.
Born on August 31, 1942, June is predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Elizabeth Dickson, and her son, Corporal John Usher.
Very proud and thankful for her grandchildren and known by many who loved her as ‘Nanny’, June is survived by her husband of 64 years, Nicholas Usher; brother, Maurice Dickson; sister, Annemarie Dickson; children, Rosemary Usher, London, ON, Darlene Aucoin, AB, and David Usher (Chris), London, ON; grandchildren, Crystal, Erina, Daniel, Matthew, Ethan, Adam, Jonathan, and Rebecca, and great-grandchildren, Emily, Grace, Shawn, and Freya.
June was a 48-year lifetime member of The Army Navy and Airforce Unit 270, 22 years Militia Reserve, Lifetime member of Navy League of Canada and a volunteer for The Salvation Army, Legions and Sea Cadets. She was awarded CD/CD1, Queens Silver, Queens Gold and Governor General’s Volunteer Sovereign metals.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care June received from the nurses in the ICU and Palliative Care units of the CBRH.
June always said that when you meet a military member you should shake their hand or buy them a coffee.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of June Usher will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, February 8, 2024. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Privat family interment will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines, at a later date.
Donations in memory of June may be made to The Salvation Army or Food Banks.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
