Northside Eastbay

July 15, 1943 – Sept. 27, 2024

Died peacefully at Hospice Cape Breton with his family by his side.

Adrian was the second child of James Francis and Evelyn Margaret (Keough) Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda (MacAdam) Murphy; sons, Sean (Sandi), Peter (Jill), and Jamie; daughter, Colleen (Paul) Matlock; grandchildren, Evan (Jessica), Logan, Catherine, David, Josh, and great granddaughter, Alexia.

Adrian is also survived by siblings, Barry (Doreen), Bruce (Peter), Kevin (Regina), Fr. Paul, Shelley, Ann Marie (Billy) Quinn, Jane (Paul) Wukitsch, Gordie (Doreen), and sisters-in-law, Florence Ann (Blair), Phyllis (Terry), and Betty (Jimmy), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Adrian was predeceased by, brothers, Jimmy, Blair, Terry, and sisters-in-law, Darlene (Jimmy) and Debbie (Shelley).

Adrian was first and foremost a family man. Family was the center of his world, especially the children. He delighted in family gatherings of any sort, being the center of attention with many stories of “how it was when…”. He was generous in spirit and cared deeply for his friends.

We would be remiss if we did not make special mention of his friend and neighbour, Pat Murphy. Pat was his rock and anchor the past few months; Ivan Doncaster, his once-a-week lunch buddy and “news from all over”; and Alexander MacEachern, who kept him up on the history of the area and the families of long ago.

Adrian wished to have any donation made in his memory to go to Hospice Cape Breton or St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund, East Bay.

There will be no visitation for the late Adrian Murphy. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Private family interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Bay.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
