South Bar

We, the family of Isabel McPhee, age 94, announce the passing of our kind, loving, strong and generous mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Sunday, September 8, 2024, after a short illness.

Born in Sydney, Isabel was the daughter of the late Bernadette ‘Peg’ (Penney) Monahan.

Isabel is survived by daughters, Leona, Rochell (Rob), and Marie (Peter); son, Robert (Dawn); daughter-in-law, Wendy; grandchildren, Jill, Melissa, and Aimee McPhee, Adam, Sherry and Stacey Axworthy, Katie Long and Glenda McIntyre; sister, Rochell Maxner; and she was well loved by 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Ninety-four years of complete dedication to her family and friends, Isabel demonstrated hospitality to all who entered her home. Until just days ago, every visitor had tea and a not so little something to eat, whether they wanted it or not! She used this as an excuse to use the “good china”. While the Sunday dinner ritual stopped as she aged, everything tasted better at Nana’s, and everyone left feeling full, appreciated and hearing a clear call to “drop in anytime”.

Isabel was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Leonard; sons, Wayne and Donald; son-in-law, Cliff MacDougall; brothers, Robert and Ronald Monahan; sisters, Sheila Swartzman and Doris Hughes; as well as a dear friend and companion, Bert Monahan.

There will be no visitation for the late Isabel McPhee. Memorial Service will be celebrated on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 1 p.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines.

Donations in memory of Isabel may be made to the IWK or a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
