It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our dearly beloved John Joseph Ross. He will be sadly missed but not forgotten. John passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born on May 4, 1950, in Whitney Pier, John was the son of the late James and Feodora (Bernasky) Ross.

John was an avid sportsman, one of the best 3rd baseman who played for the Pier Aces ball team, and he loved the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Jays. He loved dancing, fishing and all outdoor activities. John worked most of his life at the Sydney Coke Ovens alongside his father.

Left to mourn are his wife, Annette (Bonaparte) Ross; four sons, John (Jen), Joey, Jarrett (Tori), and Morgan; stepdaughter, Miranda; his pride and joy, granddaughter, Jessica, and step-grandchildren, Amanda, and Shawn. John is also survived by his sisters, Delores (Mike) Latorre, Margie, Ann Marie, and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by brother, Gerald Ross, and sister, Lillian Lirette.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of John Ross will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, July 25, 2024. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12 to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier. A light lunch/gathering will follow at 164 Taylor St. Whitney Pier.

Donations in memory of John may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
