Sydney
July 12, 1931- July 15, 2024
We, the family, sadly announce the peaceful passing of Mary Boone at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney, after a brief illness. Mary was the dedicated wife of the late David Boone and the mother of ten children.
Mary leaves behind nine children, Alfred (Pat), Stephen, David, Greg (Ruth), Clarence, Tim (Holly), Michael, Kathy (Jimmy), and Laura; 17 grandchildren, Celeste, Tonya, Robert, Kurt, Troy, Allana, Darlene, Dia, Toren, David, Michael, Vanessa, Michelle, Melissa, Jeremy, Matthew and Janna, and 18 great grandchildren. Beside her immediate family Mary leaves behind two very special friends, Anne Marie and Brandy, her furry companions who never left her side Ace, Rummy, and “The Baby”, as well as a host of longtime friends and neighbours.
Mary was predeceased by her late husband, David; her parents, Moses and Katherine Reid; brother, Joseph; sisters, Lavinia, Sarah, Katherine and son, George Boone.
Mary worked hard all her life, including as a long-time employee of the Cape-Breton Regional School Board and in her later years as a crossing guard, which brought her so much joy and touched so many children’s lives. A devote Catholic, Mary spent the majority of her free time volunteering at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sydney and in the later years of her life she faithfully attended Our Lady of Fatima. Visiting the Mother of Sorrow’s Shrine was one of her favorite trips to make every year. All her life Mary enjoyed dancing, walking, family celebrations, and going for drives. A true animal lover, a good friend, and a dedicated volunteer, Mary will be missed by all.
A special thank you to Cape Breton County Homemakers for a decade of homemaking, to the compassionate EHS Staff, the nurses and staff of the Northside General Hospital, and to Dr. Andrew Wawer who never gave up.
There will be no visitation for the late Mary Boone. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating, followed by a reception at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
For those unable to attend, Live Streaming will be available on our website.

To the Boone family my deepest condolences so sorry for your loss
This wonderful lady was very special to me. I moved into her apartment 7 yrs ago. It did not take much time for us to become very close friends. I loved her mostly when all other land lord would not allow me to rent because I had a small dog
Mary and her daughter laira Lee extended their open arms graciously,,,, they simply replied, ” more animals the better. Mary and I shared a very special bond, we did every thing together, one of our favorite things to do was to dine out at our favorite restaurant and going for long walks with Bay Love, my dog who she treated with love. If u needed 20 bucks in a hurry, she was always there, no questions asked. If you did a simple task for her, you felt like a billion bucks because she would always tell you many thank yous, and I don’t know what I would do with out you
She never missed one day with out saying I love you. I will miss Mary’s sweet earhly presence for the rest of my life. Mary was so much like my own mother never missed mass and always praying to our holy family
Mary was independently living in her daughters home until the day she transitioned into heaven. She always promised me should she go first, before I. She would make sure to look for my jenny and tell her how much I missed her and loved her
Mary was such a kind and loving mom to 9 children
She worked very hard until the age of 72 yrs
She now stands with Jesus and her loved ones who have gone befote her, especially her own mom who was taken too soon when Mary was 2 yrs.old. Mary talked about her mom daily. You will be missed Mary
I loved you so much and I’m so glad I told her how much I adored her
