It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Gordon ‘Bud’ Anthony Chiasson of Coxheath on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Dad was born on February 24, 1931, to the late Anne Chiasson and he grew up on Richmond Street with his best friend, Vince Muise. He attended Constantine School and Sydney Academy. Bud retired from Revenue Canada after 30 years of service.
While working at Fred Pierce Ltd, he was captivated by a young woman that passed the store every day on her way to work at Thompson’s; her name was Ethel. They enjoyed dancing, skating, and bowling together.
Mom and Dad were married on June 26, 1956, and soon began to build their lives around their family as Linda, Glenn, Nancy, and Mark filled their hearts and lives with love and laughs. In 1960, they built their forever home in Coxheath, where the family flourished among the wonderful friends and neighbours on Waterview Drive. Bud and Ethel were famous for their house parties and the kids would often be awakened by laugher and music on Saturday nights.
Soon they bought a piece of land in Boisdale and built the bungalow. This piece of heaven was the source of countless family times, parties and memories and remains a fixture of the Chiasson family. Bud loved to dance, play and watch hockey, swim at Boisdale, play cards, softball, skiing, bowling and eat! He never met a dessert he didn’t like. He was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens and pitied the poor Leafs fans. Bud was proud of his Newfoundland and Acadian heritage and upon his retirement conducted extensive research into his genealogy alongside his equally interested cousin, who was like a brother, Gordie Chaisson.
Dad was there for us whenever we needed him and was loved by his neighbours and friends. He was an extremely kind, decent, and humble man with a great sense of humour who loved a good Newfoundlander joke, and proudly told everyone his grandfather was born in the Little Codroy Valley. His smile was infectious and warm, and gave some of the best hugs in Cape Breton
Bud/Dad/Papa is survived by his children, Linda MacLeod, Boisdale, Nancy, Coxheath, and Mark (Kim), Upper Tantallon; grandchildren, Bradley MacLeod (Danielle), Kelli MacLeod, Jack Chiasson (Taylor), Hannah Chiasson and Evan Chiasson. He will be missed by his treasured great-grandchildren, Hunter MacLeod, Tucker MacLeod, and Kaia Chiasson.
Bud was predeceased by his wife, Ethel; son, Glenn, and son-in-law, Malcolm.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Steven MacDougall and staff for their tremendous care for Dad over the years. In addition, thanks to Dr. McCarville, Dr. Milne, and the wonderful nursing staff at CBRH for providing wonderful care for Dad.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Bud Chiasson will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, June 1, 2024. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Joe MacKenzie officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make an act of kindness in his memory and hug someone you love.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

My husband Wes and I came to meet Gord in 2019. Gord was wonderful to us both and was so proud to introduce us to his family Nancy, Linda and Mark. Gord took me through old family history and gave me wonderful pictures of my mom as a young girl and spoke oabout his grandparents. Gord took my husband and I to many wonderful sites and olaces he loved as a young boy and made our trip so memorable.

I am so sorry for your loss, Bud was so kind and giving. I have fond memories of your parents and my parents having ceilidhs together and many visits to Buds Bungalow. May he rest in peace.
What a great life to celebrate. A wonderful marriage to an incredible woman, a fabulous family with many generations of descendants, great neighbors and friends and a long and happy working career. Bud was a very kind man whom we all admired in so many ways. We (Mark’s group of friends) would gather at the family home on Waterview Drive from time to time, and when the Honda Prelude pulled into the driveway and Bud came in, the room would light up. I can honestly say that those of us that met the man, will always smile when we think of him. To Linda, Nancy, Mark and all of the family, may the love and memories you shared with Bud bring you comfort during this difficult time. His legacy lives on through you.

We were deeply saddened to hear of Bud’s passing. He was such a warm and friendly man who never failed to put a smile on your face. I remember his phone call to Jo-Ann and I when Mom passed in October. He felt so bad. He was always so considerate of other people. What a major loss . He will always be remembered with fondness.
