Its with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, brother and grandfather, Eugene Dye, age 79, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Eugene was the son of the late Frederick and Bernadette (Bates) Dye.
Eugene was a retired steel worker who enjoyed spending quality time with his family and many lifelong friends. Eugene enjoyed his old country music with a good glass of whiskey, and he had a great passion for sports. Dad lived and enjoyed his life to the fullest. Dad will always have a special place in all of our hearts.
Eugene shared his own unique bond with his children and grandchildren. Family was everything to Dad.
Besides his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his loving wife, Diane (Pottie) Dye.
Eugene is survived by his children, Terry (Vanessa), Claudine (Billy) Rohrback, George (Wendy), Fred (Cara), and Blain; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kyle, Maryanne, Belisca, Ashley, Lucas, George, Emily, Noah, and Nathan; many great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved and adored. Eugene is also survived by his beloved sister, Alice (the late Paul Poirier); Dad had a special bond with his adopted sister, Audrey; also survived by his uncle, Ivan Bates.
Upon his request there will be no visitation or service for the late Eugene Dye.
Donations in memory of Eugene may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

It took me a little while to write this. I am so heartbroken to lose such a wonderful friend. Although I left the Pier when I was 18, I always made sure I visited Dick when I was home and called him often (when he would answer the phone). He was a quiet man but loved to laugh and he remembered everything everyone told him so we could always check in for “news from home.” We had a very unique group of friends who stay in touch to this day but they were all centered around Dyes and the Hall (Imperial). But his family came first, he loved them all with a passion. He was loved by anyone who met him and he NEVER said a bad word about anyone. I will miss him but I know he is at peace and out of pain. RIP my dear dear friend.
My dear friend Fred I’m so sorry to just hear of your dad passing
