The family of Shirley Yakemchuck regret to announce her passing on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on December 21, 1951, in Sydney, Shirley was the daughter of the late Steven Roger and Vernalda (Blackie) Yakemchuck.
Shirley enjoyed visiting family and especially when hugs and kisses were involved. She loved to talk and go on outings. Shirley loved music, dancing, camping and watching movies.
Shirley is survived by sisters, Carol (Bob) Keough, Nancy (Kevin) Mailman, and Connie Yakemchuck; brother, David Yakemchuck; uncle, Joey Blackie; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Shirley’s two heart specialists as well as the nurses and doctors in CCU and palliative care and to Cornerstone for taking such great care of Shirley.
There will be no visitation for the late Shirley Yakemchuck. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
