Sydney

1946 – 2025

It is with profound pain that I announce the death of my husband, Walter A. Sawlor at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Born in Sydney in 1946, Walter was the oldest child of the late Robert and Rita (Gaudet) Sawlor. Walter attended Sydney schools. He was a 1967 graduate, with a Bachelor of Business Degree, from Saint Francis Xavier University, Antigonish. He worked at Canada Permanent Trust Company in Sydney for fourteen years, before opening his own Real Estate Appraisal Company, W. A. Sawlor Appraisals, in 1981.

Throughout his working years, Walter was very active in various volunteer organizations and held various executive positions. After his retirement in 2012, he became a cycling enthusiast and spent many happy hours throughout the year enjoying this sport.

My husband was a compulsive inventor. He was continually coming up with new ideas to improve or invent whatever he perceived as lacking in his world. In 1981, computers in the workplace were in their infancy, but Walter, with the assistance of the late Lloyd Lantz, of Lantz Electronics, created a program specifically designed to facilitate his own appraisal work. He also had a passion for vehicles and drove many favorites over the years. However, his all-time love was his Mini Cooper Clubman.

Walter is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Elaine (Mullins) Sawlor; our children, Christopher, Amanda, Mark, and our five grandchildren. Walter is also survived by his siblings, Patrick (Rick), Bradley, Karen, and Donna.

Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by siblings, Gregory, and Brenda.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Pier Community Funeral Home at 1092 Victoria Road, Sydney. In keeping with our wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family Memorial Mass has already taken place. Burial will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a future date.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Rest in God’s tender embrace my love, until we are together again.
