Marion Bridge

It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle ‘Unkie’, and friend, George Francis Doran ‘Mira Man’, 45, of Marion Bridge, on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Born on February 1, 1980, Francis is the son of Frank and Gertie Doran.

Francis was a man deeply proud of his Mira roots. He spent years working as a roughneck on the oil rigs, a linesman, and in the forest industry.

Francis was known for his love of family and spending as much time as he could in his boat on the Mira River, fishing and hunting. Francis was an avid outdoorsman. His passion for his Irish ancestry was strong, and he was known to pass on his knowledge to others at any chance he could.

Francis deeply respected the Indigenous Culture and enjoyed sharing stories of the old traditions and all of life’s creations.

Besides his loving parents, Francis is survived by siblings and best friends, Leo (Robyn) Doran, Shannon (Darren) Armsworthy, and Kelly Doran; nieces and nephews (his pride and joy), Kayla, Daveigh Kaye ‘Blondie’, Callum, Frankie, Santiago, and Sebastion; furry companion, Cookie, and his special friend, Corrina Robertson.

Francis was predeceased by paternal grandfather, and role model, Leo Doran ‘Gramps’; grandmother, Kay Doran; maternal grandfather, Art Durham and grandmother, Muriel Durham.

Francis will be deeply missed by all who knew him and forever remembered for his profound love, contagious laughter, and unbiased outlook on life.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Francis Doran will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Thursday, April 3, 2025. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Anthony Eboh officiating. Interment will take place in St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery, Grand Mira South at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Francis may be made to the St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery fund, Grand Mira South.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
