Whitney Pier

It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, William Talbot on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, at the age of 85.

Born on October 10, 1939, in Sydney, William was the son of the late James and Josephine Talbot. William worked a long hard life doing various jobs until 1974 when he started working for the City of Sydney, now the CBRM.

William was the type of person who loved to tell stories and make you laugh. He enjoyed most of all going fishing with his fur baby, Bazil and being able to come home with the catch of the day. He would then brag about what and how many fish he caught. We always said to each other jokingly that we were sure that these fish were given to him.

William is survived by his partner, Brenda Melnick; sister, Eveleen; children, Wally, Blair, Dennis, Linda (Louie), Darren (Jennifer), and Corey (Joanne); stepchildren, Bonnie, Bunker, and Margie; as well as numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, William was predeceased by the mother of his children, Alice Ash; son, Curtis; brothers, Larry, Jimmy, and sisters, Mary, Margaret, and Lucy.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital ICU for their care and compassion for William at his time of need.

Visitation for the late William Wallace Talbot will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024. A celebration of William’s life will be held in the funeral home, All Faith Chapel on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier, at a later date.

Donations in memory of William may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Online Condolences

To the Talbot Children- Erica and I are so sorry to learn of the death of your Dad. He was a terrific neighbour, greeting everyone with a smile. He had to be the last guy in the Pier who, when seeing us together, would say “Hello Dears” we got such a kick out of that. He really was an iconic figure, everyone in the Pier knew Wally. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you move forward without your Dad, he was one of a kind!!! In sympathy, Valerie and Erica Bobyk

I was sorry to hear of the passing of my uncle Wally. Larry Talbot was my uncle and the brother of my mother Florence O’Donnell. I have memories of Wally when I was taking a course in Sydney in 1966 and visited him and granddad James Talbot many times.
