Sydney

January 4, 1963 – October 25, 2024

It is with saddened and heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Leo Joseph Cormier, surrounded by loving family on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Leo was born January 4, 1963, to the late Harold and Helen (Moss) Cormier, Sydney.

Leo was a devoted father, husband, brother, uncle and friend to all. He was a true family man and loved nothing more than family get togethers where he could be found enjoying great conversations, singing and playing guitar.

Leo had a long career with the Canadian Forces, serving his country for over 17 years. While at work, his love of country introduced him to the love of his life, Michelle.

For over 20 years, Leo was employed with Kent Building Supplies (formerly Central Building Supplies), helping customers both inside and outside the store, where he made many great and lasting friendships.

Left to mourn Leo with loving memories are his pride and joy, his daughters, Renee (Josh Wruck), Charlottetown, PE, and Danielle (TJ Hart); sister, Bernadette (Bill) Moss; brothers, Gordie (Helen) and Dennis (Natalie), all of Sydney; in-laws, Lou and Marjorie Fougere, Baddeck; brother-in-law, Rene, Moosenee, ON; sisters-in-law, Jenet Campbell, Halifax, and Janelle (Jeff) Osborne, Sydney; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by the love of his life, Michelle (Fougere) Cormier. Comfort can be found in the knowledge that they are together again.

The family would like to thank EHS, as well as Dr. MacVicar and the nurses, doctors and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Emergency Room who provided care and comfort during his last moments.

Visitation for the late Leo Cormier will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leo’s memory to the Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

“Dad,
With deepest love and pride, I carry on your legacy in service to Canada. Forever my hero, now and always in my heart.” Renee

“Dad,
Even though you are not here, the time we had was blessed. This isn’t goodbye because you’re still right here by my side. I’ll love you forever and a day.” Danielle

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Online Condolences

My condolences go out to Bernadette, Gordie and Dennis and family on Leo’s passing. He was always such a nice guy, I known him since 1968 starting primary at South Bar school. During our late teens and early 20s we had alot or fun in the basement at your mom’s house. RIP old friend. From: Marlene Miles
