With heavy hearts we, the family, announce the passing of Joseph ‘Joe’ Charles Garnier on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Ottawa.

Born on March 29, 1966, in Sydney, Joe was the son of the late Don and Phyllis (Marman) Garnier.

Joseph lived and worked in Cape Breton, Kitchener, Lachine, and Ottawa. He enjoyed travel, especially to Louisianna.

Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by many from the Marman, and Garnier families.

Joe is survived by brother, Donnie (Nancy); nieces, Jennifer (Clyde Hartling), Kimberley (Brad Fraser), and Shannon (Jason Lahey); grandnephews, Harrison and Lachlan Fraser, and Boden Lahey; aunt, Mary Marman; uncles, Ronald (Rita) Marman (all from NS); Clyde (Evelyn) Garnier, Ottawa, ON; as well as many cousins; stepchildren, Micheal Godbout (Anne Coursol), Jessica Godbout (Shawn Miron), and Jennifer (Harry Sapuridis). Joe was blessed by step grandchildren, Giselle and Gabrielle Godbout, Kathleen and Shirley-Ann Miron, and Hayley and James Sapuridis.

Joe had an eternal life-bond with Kathleen Jolly and sons, Keith, Cory, and Sean Whalen. Loving friendship with Paula Kennedy and Ernie Petley; Nancy-Anne Gauthier (predeceased by Joseph’s best friend Brian); Doug Fex; Gillian Cornie; Robert (Monica), Earl and Bev Brewer.

Joseph graciously donated his body to the U of O Faculty of Medicine. Eventually, internment will take place with his parents in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, Nova Scotia.

We are grateful for Joseph’s care from the team at Bruyere St. Vincent’s Hospital- 2 North (Ottawa).

Celebration of Life for the late Joseph Garnier will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. ADT with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow the service in the reception area of the funeral home.
