Whitney Pier

Donald Lawrence Smith who was born on October 20, 1944, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Monday, August 19, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Donnie was predeceased by parents, Don and Anne; brother, Jimmy (Nancy); sister, Kay (Jr.), and uncles, Fr. Angus, and Benny.

Donnie is survived by wife, Connie; daughter, Amanda (Allan); grandchildren, Charlie and Killian; stepchildren, Ronnie, Lisa, Nelson, Ivan, Nelda, Blair, Laura and Greg; sister, Lou (Tom), brothers, Martin and his son, Alton, and Robbie (Pat); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Donnie loved his family and spending time with everyone. He loved his cats, Carley, Misty, and Mira. He loved going to the casino and playing bingo with his wife. He loved his home and was so proud of it. He loved life and did all he could to enjoy it as long as possible.

Visitation for the late Donnie Smith will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
