Saint John/Sydney

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, and friend, Michael Herbert Bagnell, on Friday, August 9, 2024. Mike passed from a sudden heart attack at his home in Saint John, NB.

In Mike’s youth he attended Mira Road Elementary School, Malcolm Monroe Junior High, Riverview High School and Memorial High school in Sydney Mines. He was awarded a skills competition award, for which he travelled to BC to receive.

In his youth Mike played hockey for the County and City from tots through to midget. Mike played hard, loved hard and at times was hardheaded. He had the knack and skills to put together or fix just about any mechanical device.

Mike served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a vehicle technician in the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers Division. His career spanned 17 years in which he was posted to three different cities. Mike also served his country in a seven-month deployment in Afghanistan for which he was extremely proud to have represented our Canadian soldiers. He retired in 2019 to Saint John to be near his children.

Mike is survived by his two children, Michael, and Gracelyn, who were his world; father, Michael Bagnell (Ruby); mother, Maria Steele; brother, Brandon; niece, Abigale; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and special ‘Nannie’, Anna Bagnell, whom he loved beyond words.

Mike was predeceased by his grandfather, Herbert Bagnell; grandparents, Patrick and Catherine Steele; as well as his stepdad, Paul Horgan (Maria).

Cremation for the late Michael Bagnell has taken place in Saint John, NB.

So very sad to read about the sudden passing of Mike. My daughter, Dorisa ( his classmate from grade primary at Mira Road Elementary) bought it to my attention. So unbelievable and so tragic for all his loved ones. Sincere condolences.
