Sydney
November 29, 1940 – July 26, 2024
John Clarke, age 83, surrounded by family and friends, peacefully passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Friday, July 26, 2024.
Born in Coxheath, John was the son of the late Reginald and Jean (Ferguson) Clarke. His time was spent building friendships and steel during his years. When he completed his education, he began working at the former Sydney Steel from which he retired in 1994. He was an active member of many organizations, notably the Canadian Armed Forces, Masonic Lodge and the Bethel Presbyterian Church.
John was lucky to have two distinct lives, one with his wife and travel partner of 40 years, Helen (Ellis), who passed in 2011, and another with Sandra McLeod and family. John travelled the world but always returned home to enjoy coffee with friends. John enjoyed his music, gardening, reading and travelling around Cape Breton, visiting its many hidden gems.
John is survived by his son, James (Michelle); daughter, Linda; granddaughter, Faith; brother, Blair (Joanne), and several extended family members, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents and wife, John was predeceased by brother, Robert Wayne in infancy; sister, Rae and brother, Walter.
Visitation for the late John Clarke will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. A celebration of John’s life will be held in the funeral home in the All Faith Chapel on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Coull officiating.
