Sydney

July 12, 1931- July 15, 2024

We, the family, sadly announce the peaceful passing of Mary Boone at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney, after a brief illness. Mary was the dedicated wife of the late David Boone and the mother of ten children.

Mary leaves behind nine children, Alfred (Pat), Stephen, David, Greg (Ruth), Clarence, Tim (Holly), Michael, Kathy (Jimmy), and Laura; 17 grandchildren, Celeste, Tonya, Robert, Kurt, Troy, Allana, Darlene, Dia, Toren, David, Michael, Vanessa, Michelle, Melissa, Jeremy, Matthew and Janna, and 18 great grandchildren. Beside her immediate family Mary leaves behind two very special friends, Anne Marie and Brandy, her furry companions who never left her side Ace, Rummy, and “The Baby”, as well as a host of longtime friends and neighbours.

Mary was predeceased by her late husband, David; her parents, Moses and Katherine Reid; brother, Joseph; sisters, Lavinia, Sarah, Katherine and son, George Boone.

Mary worked hard all her life, including as a long-time employee of the Cape-Breton Regional School Board and in her later years as a crossing guard, which brought her so much joy and touched so many children’s lives. A devote Catholic, Mary spent the majority of her free time volunteering at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sydney and in the later years of her life she faithfully attended Our Lady of Fatima. Visiting the Mother of Sorrow’s Shrine was one of her favorite trips to make every year. All her life Mary enjoyed dancing, walking, family celebrations, and going for drives. A true animal lover, a good friend, and a dedicated volunteer, Mary will be missed by all.

A special thank you to Cape Breton County Homemakers for a decade of homemaking, to the compassionate EHS Staff, the nurses and staff of the Northside General Hospital, and to Dr. Andrew Wawer who never gave up.

There will be no visitation for the late Mary Boone. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating, followed by a reception at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

For those unable to attend, Live Streaming will be available on our website.
