Whitney Pier

It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of our mother, Katherine ‘Kay’ (Morrison) Borden on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Kay was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

Born on August 26, 1933, in Marble Mountain, Whycocomagh, Cape Breton, Kay was a daughter to the late George and Margaret (Maxwell) Morrison.

Kay was employed at the Sydney City Hospital for 28 years and then at New Dawn Guest Home for 19 years as a cook.

Kay is survived by her two sons, Scott , Sidney (Celine) and chosen son, Peter Colford; grandchildren, Aubrey, Sidney Paige, Deacon, and Mikayle; great-granddaughter, Avery; siblings, Jeannette MacDonald, Whycocomagh, Cindy Cambridge, Sydney, and Diane Morrison, Sydney; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Kay was predeceased by her husband, John Howard Borden; sister, Mary Hamilton and brothers, Donnie Morrison and Howard Morrison.

Kay was so kind to everyone she knew and would cook and bake for everyone no matter what the occasion.

Kay will be greatly missed by her friends at the Griffin Street Home, Whitney Pier; as well as many friends and neighbors on Hankard Steet in Whitney Pier. Kay will also be forever missed by her long-life friend, Doris Smith.

Visitation for the late Katherine Borden will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. A celebration of Kay’s life will be held in the funeral home in the All Faith Chapel on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. with Margie MacIntyre officiating. Interment will take place Forest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Sydney.

Donations in memory of Kay may be made to St. Philip’s African Orthodox Church in Whitney Pier.
