We, the family, regret to announce the passing of Viola Mary Evong on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at MacGillivary Guest Home in Sydney.
Born on September 22, 1937, in Sydney, Viola was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (MacNeil) Burke.
Viola was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Edmond Alexander Evong and ten siblings.
Viola is survived by her only son, Edmond (Noel); three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In her earlier days, Viola was a member of the CWL St. Augustine’s Church and the Branch 12 Legion Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She worked in the grocery business for her whole career. Viola enjoyed darts, bowling, and bingo and was a very devoted catholic.
Thank you to the staff at MacGillivary Guest home and the dialysis team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for your care and compassion to Viola in her time of need.
There will be no visitation or service at this time for the late Viola Evong. Graveside memorial service in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, will be announced at a later date.
Donations in memory of Viola may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

My Mother and Father Fred and Agnes Mombourquette took me and my brother and sisters to Sydney several times to visit, she was so out going and a lot of fun, we always enjoyed our time together. Our sincere Sympathies.
