Our dear Joseph ‘Joe’ was called by the Lord to join his beloved wife of 66 years and best friend, Mary Elizabeth (Wylde).

Born and raised on French Street in Whitney Pier to the late Jenny Keough, Joe leaves behind many who loved him. He leaves behind his three sons, Tim, William ‘Chuck’ and Brian (Liz). Also left to mourn are grandchildren, Chris (Alex) Keough, Ryan (Chelsea) Keough, and Adam Mahar; brother, David Nearing; brother-in-law, Tom (Brenda)Wylde, and daughter-in-law, Emily Keough. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, Pat (Theresa), Ray, Jane and Vincent (Kendra) Kennedy, and Kelly (Miada) Wylde; as well as many great-grandchildren and cousins, who held a special place in his heart.

Besides his beloved wife and mother, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Marie and her husband, Ray Kennedy; niece, Theresa Wells, and nephew, Casey Wylde.

During his lifetime Joe made many friends at his workplaces, including the Royal Bank, Dept. of Motor Vehicles, Kmart, Canadian Tire, Maritime Builders and Sullivans Construction.

Joe was an avid “television” sports fan and played hockey and baseball in his younger years. Several years he and Mary were bowlers and travelled to tournaments with their many friends. Joe was also an avid reader. In later years, Joe and Mary loved long drives, winter vacations in Florida, and visiting family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Glenn Worth and his wife, Shannon; as well as the staff at the Fisherman’s Cove, Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their care and compassion for Joe during his time of need.

Memorial service will be announced at a later date for both Joe and Mary, at which time they will be laid to rest together.

Donations in memory of Joe may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
