It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Mary Evangeline (Bourinot) Lahey on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.
Born on March 24, 1936, Vangie was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Swartz) Bourinot and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Vangie worked hard raising ten children as a stay-at-home mom. After her children were grown, she went to work at National Sea Products for many years before retiring. Vangie remained active in her retirement. You could find her on the water somewhere trout fishing, playing a game of cards or darts, trying her luck at BINGO, or out and about dancing the night away.
Vangie loved spending time with her family and friends. She was also an avid member of the CWL at Immaculate Conception Church in Main-A-Dieu.
Vangie is survived by her sons, Wayne (Doreen), Maurice (Florence), Lawrence (Aileen), Kevin, Basil (Karen), and Darren; daughters-in-law, Glenda and Jackie; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Vangie was predeceased by her loving husband, Maurice; daughter, Diane; sons, Tom, Billy, and Kenny; great-grandson, Mitchel, and son-in-law, John Peinsznski.
We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to all the staff at Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford. Their compassion and care they showed Vangie during her final years will never be forgotten.
Visitation for the late Mary Lahey will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, Main-A-Dieu from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023. Following the visitation, Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. with Fr. Ikechukwu Alphonsus Iwuji officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Main-A-Dieu.
For those unable to attend, the Mass will be recorded and uploaded to our website after the service is over and we return to the funeral home. There is no wifi at the church so Live Stream is not possible. The service should be available after 4 p.m. Atlantic time.

Donations in memory of Vangie, may be made to the Parish Cemetery in Main-A-Dieu, or Maple Hill Manor New Waterford.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
