Sydney
As of Thursday, July 27, 2023, it is official. “Crazy” Dave has finally stopped repairing things and is taking a much-deserved break. He fought hard, but in the end, he couldn’t FIX cancer the way he could fix everything else. His new job will be reuniting with those who went before him including his family, friends, and favorite dog, Joey. His to do list includes taking it easy, playing some guitar, casting out the rod, and fixing up a few classic cars.
Born in Sydney in April of 1955, Dave was the son of the late Jennie Lois (Kaiser) and Colin MacDonald.
Dave leaves behind his first and forever love and wife of 50 years, Bernadette; their two children, Starlene and Gary, and the young man that gave him his most recent nickname “Poppy”, his only grandson, Dreyton.
Dave will always be remembered for his determination, grit, strong work ethic, unbelievable stories, love for Santa, and his one-of-a-kind songs. We are grateful for all he fixed, for all his advice (whether we needed or not) and for all the good times we had. We wish him a safe journey to his final resting place.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses from Palliative Care and the amazing VON nurses. Thanks to them, Dave was able to pass peacefully at home with his family by his side.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dave can may be made to St. Peter Parish Cemetery Fund at saintpetersingonish@ns.sympatico.ca where he will be resting by the sea or to the Cape Breton SPCA at https://www.novascotiaspca.ca/how-you-can-help/donate.
There will be no visitation for the late David MacDonald. Memorial service to celebrate the life of David MacDonald will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery, Ingonish at a later date. Following the service there will be a reception in the funeral home.
For those unable to attend, Live Streaming will be available on our website.
