We, the family, regret to announce that Mary Fraser of South Bar, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on March 23, 1936, in Sydney, Mary was the daughter of the late Frank and Clothilda ‘Tillie’ MacPhee of Sydney River. She was an exceptionally caring and sweet person who never forgot a birthday, or a kind word. An avid gardener, she enjoyed cultivating many beautiful flower gardens. Mary will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary leaves behind her cherished husband of 67 years, William ‘Willie’ Fraser, South Bar; her beloved children, William ‘Bill’ Fraser, North Sydney, Lisa (Andrew) Mason, Bradford, ON, and grandchildren, Ian, Abby, and Colin of North Sydney, and Andie of Bradford, ON.
Also remaining are her sisters, Marie (the late Barney) MacNeil, Innisfil, ON, Peggy, Mabou, Monica (Gordon) Wamboldt, Sally (Raymond) Hooper, and brother, Frank of Sydney.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by brothers, Daniel and John; sisters, Florence and Sr. Helen, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Melanie MacLennan-Fraser.
Mary will also be missed dearly by her sister-in-law, Joan and nephew, Mark who provided her with much support. Additionally, she will be missed by her niece, Beth and neighbour, Donna, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Fraser will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory of Mary may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

I have memories of summer days at polar bear beach in South Bar. A meeting point for family chats ,swims, and laughs.
Aunt Mary will be remembered for having a very kind heart.
Spent so many summers picking blueberries and swimming in SouthBar at Polar Bear beach…. So sorry for the loss of Aunt Mary. Big hugs to Uncle Willie, Billy and Lisa. Will be thinking of you all on the 5th. I’ll be there in spirit❣️
