Sydney

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our mom, Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Ella (MacKenzie) Pratt on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by family.

Born and raised in Sydney, Mom was the daughter of the late Philip and Hazel (Drover) MacKenzie.

Our mom was the most kind and generous person. Always wanting to please everyone. She was the friendliest person you would have ever met. She would talk to anyone and always leave them laughing with the biggest smile on their face. Dottie was the happiest when she was helping others. Never wanted to be a burden to anyone. She was a proud mother and grandmother. She loved everyone, a true angel.

Besides both of her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by sisters, Phyllis (MacKenzie) Pearce, and Shirley (MacKenzie) Washbrooke, and her husband, Tom Pratt.

Dorothy is survived by special brother, David, Sydney; brother, Wayne (Trish), Sydney; sister, Darlene (Kenny), Sydney; loving daughter, Andrea (Jamie), Sydney; sons, Tom (Cassie), Halifax, and Philip (Elizabeth), Newfoundland; grandchildren, Perry, Emily, Josh, Mitchel, McKenzie, Briar, and Brady; great-grandchild, Brody; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dottie will be sadly and deeply missed by all who loved her. Rest in peace our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy Pratt will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Friday, January 13, 2023. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception will be held in the funeral home following the service.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
