We, the family announce the peaceful passing of Peter MacKinnon, age 85, Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney, surrounded by his family.
Born on May 14, 1937, in New Victoria, Peter was a son of the late Joseph and Lily (Cunliffe) MacKinnon.
Peter was a family man who enjoyed sharing his time with family and friends. The more he could do for people, the happier he was.
Peter is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Theresa ‘Terry’ (MacDonald) MacKinnon; daughters, Carol Lee (Keith) Barrington and Trina (Clifford) Stewart; sisters, Annie Mae and Melinda; brother, Jack; grandchildren, Mark (Christina) Barrington, Brian (Melissa) Barrington, Holly Barrington, Keegan Aubin and five great-grandchildren, Anna, Emma, Keegan, Kameron and Riley.
Besides his parents, Peter was predeceased by brothers, Danny, Philip, Billy, Michael and Little Philip; sisters, Mary, Sabina, Margaret, Evelyn and grandsons, Bruce Barrington and Kyle Gallant.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Northside Community Guest Home and at the Northside General Hospital for taking care of Peter in his time of need.
Visitation for the late Peter MacKinnon will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2023. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held in the funeral home in the All Faith Chapel on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Peter may be made to the Northside Community Guest home.

I grew up knowing all the MacKinnon family, all were outstanding members of our little community in New Victoria ..acts of kindness came naturally to the whole family including both his parents Lovely people for sure. I am so sorry to read of the passing of Peter. My father’s family,the Ratchford’s lived down by them and they were always at any wake and function en masse to support us.The line of sisters and brothers g he as gotten smaller and we lost our last uncle,Murray last year.Murray always visited Peter when he came home along with Ramallah Fraser and all of us.I often saw Peter at the Regional ER where I work,it was always a pleasure to see him.God Bless you all!
