January 14, 1949 – November 11, 2022
It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our precious mom, Shirley Marie Lessley, on Friday, November 11, 2022, at home, surrounded by loved ones after a lengthy battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Mama showed great strength and courage over the years battling her illness and took great joy in the love she had for her children, which we returned tenfold, and the deep love shared between her and her partner, Linda.
Mama is survived by her partner and the Love of her Life, Linda; three children, Leonard (Amy) Smith, Sherry (Stephen) Reid, and her baby, Dawn Tracey Lessley; grandchildren, Jonathan (Alyssa), Catlyn and Taryn; great-granddaughter, Meadow; Linda’s daughter, Kim with whom she shared a special bond, Linda’s sons, Brent and Bradley; Linda’s many grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Madison; siblings, Raymond (Teresa), Kenneth (Francis), Marilyn (the late Wayne) Boutilier and her baby sister, Julia (Gordon); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Mama was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Rebecca Manning; sister, Gladys (Phillip); brothers, Albert (Debbie), John (Gladys).
Mama was one in a million who had great love in her heart to share, and it showed to everyone who knew her through the beautiful smile she always wore. She loved camping and fishing and traveling, especially the random road trips she and Linda would take together. She also had a deep faith and close relationship with the Lord.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Shirley Lessley will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, November 19, 2022. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Lieutenants Dion and Jenelle Durdle officiating. I had the privilege of giving Shirley Marie a ride back to Sydney from Halifax many years ago. I will never forget her warmth and vivacious conversation. Now I have the continuation of a relationship with her daughter Dawn Tracey who inherits her endearing qualities. What a family !!

I have so many memories of family gatherings.. So many Christmases and summers spent together. I was so blessed to have grown up in a close knit family. Aunt Shirley was always at the centre of every event. Her sense of fun, and family made every get together memorable. I will always remember the laughs, the dancing, the shennigans, and most of all the love. I am blessed to call you my Aunt. Sending so much love to my cousins and to Linda.
