With heavy hearts we, the family, regret to announce the peaceful passing of our father, John Everett Woodburn on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, in the Northside General Hospital with his family by his side.
Born on March 1, 1945, John was the son of the late Vivian (Mullins) and Horace Woodburn.
In his earlier years, John drove truck for Pepsi before working as a coal miner in 26th collier, Glace Bay. He was also a cab driver throughout many years working for R&M Taxi and City Wide.
John loved his chats on the phone with family and friends, his music and was an avid dart player. He enjoyed going to church as a eucharist minister at the Holy Redeemer Church and would offer communion to the sick in his spare time.
John is survived by his children, Gary, Pam (Darren), Earl, all from Sydney, Barbara (Emerson), John (Debbie), Cindy (Paul), all from Ontario; stepchildren, Arnold, Pattie-Ann (Clyde), Kent (Jo-Anne), Lisa (Billy) and his loving pet Casey. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon, Linda (Bengt), Deby; sister-in-law, Dolores and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, Art ‘Woody’, and Gary in infancy; sister, Elaine in infancy; wife, Veronica ‘Ronnie’, and the mother of his children, Marie.
We the family would like to give a special thanks to City Home Makers, the staff at Harbourview Hospital, and the nurses at the Northside General in palliative care for their support and care in John’s time of need. We would also like to thank Dr. Andrew Waiver and Dr. Wiggins for their care and compassion during John’s battle with dementia.
