Sydney
Dennis Mackenzie Fougere, born on Nov. 20, 1955, passed away early Friday morning, July 8, 2022, peacefully in his sleep, under the care of the An Cala team of the Palliative unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Cancer had ravished his whole body.
Dennis grew up in Halifax under the care of his Aunt Della and Uncle Tom White. He had Cerebral Palsy and lived with them to be close to the hospital. In later years, he moved back to Sydney to be near his huge family of 12 siblings, Aubrey, Dale, Noreen, Della, Norman, William, Wayne, Paul, Heather, Wendy, Isabelle, and Karen.
When Dennis moved back to Sydney, he worked at the incinerator and got his leg crushed in a workplace accident. Dennis’ disability did not stop him from enjoying his life. Everyday he was on the go on the four-wheeler, fishing with the guys and later years on his buggy.
Dennis was an avid lover of music, had numerous chats at Tim Horton’s, and loved his many pets, fish, Iguana and was adored by his dog and best buddy. Although Dennis seemed like a grumpy old fart, he had a heart of gold and loved his family fiercely, always looking forward to the next visit or phone call. His big blueberry eyes and warm smile always inviting and happy to see anyone who would stop in to say Hello.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Lois and Dennis Sr. Fougere; older sister, Isabelle MacEachern; nephews, Donald Phillips, and Kenny Phillips; special Aunt Della and Uncle Tom White.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Dennis Fougere will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd.
