Whitney Pier
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Summer, regret to announce that she unfortunately and suddenly passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2022, in Sydney.
Born August 24, 1999, in Simcoe, Ontario, Summer was the daughter of Bonnie Munro and Shawn Cook.
Besides her parents, Summer is survived by her son, Atlas; siblings, TJ, Douglas Perry and sister-in-law, Ariana Murray; as well as stepmom, Angelica Gee and stepsisters, Alexis Gee and Katie Gee.
Summer was predeceased by her nana, Vaunda; uncle, Jay and dear friend, Dwayne.
Summer was loved by so many more. Summer was known to be the most loving and high achiever, who always put others before herself. She was an animal lover and had many pets, including Spike, her bearded dragon and Kush, her dog.
Summer moved down to Cape Breton to start a new life for herself and her son. She fell in love with everything on the island, including the jellyfish that show up every year. She was attending a program at the YMCA to fulfill her passion for cooking. At the YMCA, Summer made many friends and had an amazing support team. She started working at A Better Bite Cafe & Catering in Sydney and was loved by all the staff. Summer will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
Celebration of life for the late Summer Diane Cook will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Summer may be made to Cape Breton Mental Health Services.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

It is with profound sadness to hear of Summer passing. I got to know Summer while she attended a program at the YMCA. She was a bright light in the classroom and we were happy to have gotten to know her.

So sad… RIP Summer…
Our Condolences and prayers for Summer’s family and friends .
My name is Terrence MacDonald , I am 1 of 2 Main drivers for the Whitney Pier route that Summer and Atlas used everyday , most days multiple trips a day.
To say I was shocked and saddened to read of Summer’s passing is an understatement , my reflex moved me from one chair to another.
From the time I first met Summer I always thought she was a good and caring Mom to Atlas , We would enjoy seeing how fascinated he was with the bus and it’s noises.
Summer , being so thoughtful , gave me a cup with #1 Driver on it along with chocolates and a Tim’s card in a gift bag for Christmas to show her appreciation for my Service.
Today being the 1st day driving since I read her notice , I told a few of my regulars that often chatted with Summer about her passing , They also were Shocked !
7 Times I passed “HER” stop Today and slowed down as if I was pulling in to pick up her and Atlas .
God Bless her Soul and I Pray that everything works out for my little buddy Atlas. . I’ll Miss Both of Them so much !!
Thank you so, so much. I am her father and it’s still so unreal, I’m so happy to read about all the lives she touched. It makes me that much more proud to have had such an amazing caring daughter.
I had the pleasure of working with Summer in an employment program through the YMCA/Nova Scotia Works over the past few months and am just so saddened by the news.
Summer will always be remembered by her kindness, curiosity, and ability to take any situation and find the good in it. She had an honest and direct approach to reaching her goals, often running full speed ahead to achieve them. She displayed so much compassion to everyone around her, but her special appreciation towards animals and nature stood out the most.
Thinking on her love of animals, one of my favorite moments with her was when we were on a walk to the grocery store one day, and we came across an individual busking out front of the store with their dog. Summer told us she would be right back and when she returned, she had a bag full of treats for the person’s dog. Even though she could have used that money for herself, she didn’t think twice about sharing some of what she had with others. She carried those acts of kindness around with her everywhere that she went, and it really spoke to what kind of person she was at heart.
I am just so shocked and saddened by the news, and wish to express my deepest condolences to Atlas, Summer’s son; Her family, close friends, and all those who were touched by her electric energy and unwavering kindness.
Rest easy Summer,
<3

I’m so sorry Summer. I love you forever. Until we meet again there won’t be a day that I don’t regret loving you harder.
