It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Blair McKinnon on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at home in New Waterford.
Born on March 12, 1952 in New Waterford, Blair was the son of the late Theo and Regis (Williams) McKinnon.
Blair was a family man and loved his family dearly. He enjoyed their family party every Christmas. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and was loved by all who knew him. Blair was known for his sense of humour no matter how sick he got. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his many hunting trips with his brother-in-law, Mike until his health got too bad. He loved to pack up his family each summer and go camping.
Blair leaves behind the love of his life and best friend, Donna (Fraser) McKinnon; sons, Troy (Stephanie), Ohio, Bobby at home and Chad, Alberta; daughter, Tanya, Alberta; grandchildren, Caiden and Noah McKinnon, Ohio, Josh and Shawn MacLeod, at home; brothers, Brian (Tina) and Wayne; sisters, Mary (Glenn), Irene (Robert) and Diane (Sheldon); mother-in-law, Florence Fraser; sisters-in-law, Mary Phillips and Betty (Greg) Hill; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Colleen) Fraser and Mike (Mary) Fraser; special friends, Charlie and Terry Harte and Shirley Rockett; many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly as well as his fur babies, Roxy, Mitsy, Shannon, Baily, Oreo and Buddy.
Besides his parents, Blair is predeceased by his father-in-law, Jimmy Fraser; sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Fraser, Diane Delaney and Frances Fraser; brothers-in-law, Blair Fraser, Harry Phillips and Pat Delany and friend, Valley Rockett.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Robert Blair McKinnon will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.) Whitney Pier on Thursday, March 19, 2020. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. Light refreshments will take place in the funeral home reception area following the service. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Blair can be made to the Cancer Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
