Sydney

It is with heartfelt sorrow we regret the sudden passing of Harold Angus MacLellan, age 73 on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Harold was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Martin and Kathleen (MacKenzie) MacLellan.

Harold is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate of over 50 years, Carmella (Candelora); father to, Lisa (Brad Zavisha), Calgary, Cory (Lisa Fasciani), Calgary; grandchildren, Jordan, Brooklyn and Adian Zavisha, Calgary, whom he thought the world of; brothers, Ray (Barbara), Stan (Nicholette), Martin (Patricia), Dennis (Pauline) and Charlie (Arlene), Minden, ON; sisters, Judy Walsh (Jerome), Halifax, Kathy Royal (Gilbert), Connie for whom Harold and Carmella have a special place in their hearts; brothers-in-law, Joe (Margaret Ann), Dominic (Dorothy) and Jimmy (Carleen); as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by grandson, Vance Zavisha.

Harold worked at various jobs over the years, in Toronto for CPI, in Hamilton for Canadian Porcelain and in 1974 his love for Cape Breton brought him back to the island. Upon returning to Sydney he worked for Atlantic Spring & Machine, Smiths Bakery and Holy Redeemer Parish until retirement in 2007. Harold was loved by his many nieces and nephews whom he was always pleased to see and whose company he enjoyed very much.

Harold was a soft spoken, humble gentleman, a peaceful soul always willing to lend a helping hand. He saw the good in people and never had a harsh word to say about anyone. He was a man of faith and integrity. Harold will be remembered as the premier funny guy in the family and his humour was always appreciated at the many family gatherings over the decades. In the waning years amongst the brothers Harold and Ray would be the last men standing with the youngest brother Charlie ready to jump in. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place at New Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier.

At the request of the family, donations, in memory of Harold, may be made to the Holy Redeemer building fund or the SPCA.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
