It is with great sadness we announce the passing of A. Charles ‘Charlie’ MacLean, age 81, on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on October 16, 1937 in New Waterford, Charlie was the son of the late Dan and Elizabeth (MacArthur) MacLean.
Charlie is survived by his loving family, wife of 57 years, Joan (Nearing); his three girls, Paula (Manning) Murphy, Allison (Malcolm) Beaton, and Charlene (Sheldon) Rowsell; his only son, Glen (Melissa); grandchildren, Kim (Toni) Hagman, Adam Murphy, Jacob, Olivia and Chloe Rowsell, Stella and Scarlett MacLean; great-grandchildren, Madi and Emma Hagman; sister, Rose Nicholson; brother-in-law, Greg (Norma) Nearing; sister-in-law, Karen Fraser; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Charlie was predeceased by brothers, Ray and Art; sisters, Donna and Marie; as well as parents- in-law, Bill and Rose Nearing and brother-in-law, Louis Nearing.
Charlie worked in the automotive industry and retired from Maritime Tel & Tel after 29 years of service. His favorite spot was the summer home in Whycocomaugh where you could find Mom and Dad from May to October each year. His passion was fishing the Skye river often with his son, Glen. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the Mass, a reception will be held in the Pier Community Funeral Home reception area.
Donations in memory of Charlie may be made to Holy Redeemer Building Fund, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
