It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Josephine Hill, age 72, on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. She lost her battle with cancer, but Josie is now at peace. Born on October 14, 1946 in Sydney, Josie was the daughter of the late Clarence William and Theresa ‘Hayes’ Gardiner from Railroad Street, Sydney.
Josie enjoyed the simple things in life, family, good times and laughter. She was a member of St. Theresa’s and Holy Redeemer parishes. Josie will be forever missed but never forgotten by her family and friends.
Besides her parents, Josie was predeceased by her siblings, John Gardiner, Charles Gardiner, Genevieve Bishop, Nora Cameron, Bridget Ann Gardiner, Mary Elizabeth MacNeil, and a brother in infancy.
Josephine is survived by her children, Natasha (Neil Ferguson) Hill, John Hill and Jennifer Richardson; grandchildren, Samantha, Caitlin, Courtney and Ronnie Jr.; siblings, Jim Gardiner, Mike (Anne) Gardiner, Theresa Robic, Rose (John) Jack and Pearl Tanner; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
At Josie’s request there will be no visitation.
Memorial Mass for the late Josephine ‘Josie’ Frances Hill will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the Mass, a light luncheon will be served in the Pier Community Funeral Home reception area.
Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Josie, may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund or charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
