With sadness and with faith in the resurrection, the family of James Gregory Gushue announce his passing on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney on April 12, 1935, Jim was the last surviving member of his immediate family, the youngest child of the late George and Margaret (White) Gushue.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Ellen (Carew); devoted son, Lorne James of Yellowknife; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his infant daughter, Darci Marie; sisters, Tess Tonet, Bernice Fifield, Madelyn Sheppard and Anna Hayes; brothers, Michael, Cyril, Ron and George as well as his very best friend, Wally Crewe who died too soon.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of James Gregory Gushue will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Sunday, April 28, 2019. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12 noon – 1 p.m. with service to follow at 1 p.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
