Sydney
It is with broken hearts that we, the family announce the passing of our wonderful mother, Theresa Geraldine ‘Gerry’ (Moore) Ferguson on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, Gerry was the daughter of the late Thomas Moore of Mill Creek and Mary Catherine ‘Katie’ (Young) Moore of New Waterford.
Gerry spent her younger years growing up on Roaches Road. In 1962, Gerry married her husband of 56 years, William ‘Kelly’ Ferguson. Together they lived in Ashby and never to move to another home. Family was “everything” to Gerry. She “idolized” her three boys and three grandchildren.
In her earlier years, Gerry worked at Woolworths in New Waterford and then at K-Mart in Sydney until it closed. Gerry was a hard worker! Always to be seen cleaning her home and looking forward to cooking and baking every Sunday for her family to come for dinner.
Gerry had the kindest heart and genuine soul; always doing for everyone else! She was a true believer in what we needed in life rather than what we wanted. Gerry would ask for nothing; and would not complain about anything. She had a strong love and belief for God.
Gerry “Loved” the Toronto Blue Jays; never to miss a ball game on tv. Win or lose; she was their number one fan.
Left behind to keep her memory and legacy alive is her “devoted” husband, Kelly, who was Gerry’s main caregiver for the last 12 years; “three boys”, John (Wendy) Ferguson, Raymond (Corinne) Ferguson and David; as well as her “three” cherished grandchildren, Katelyn, Ryan and Peter. Gerry is also survived by her siblings, Shirley Moore, Gussie (Myrna) Moore, Hazel and sister-in-law, Faye Moore.
Gerry was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Annie, Katie, Charlie and Tommy.
In keeping with Gerry’s wishes there will be no visitation. Funeral Mass for the late Gerry Ferguson will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating. Interment will take place in Eastmount Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerry may be made to charity of one’s choice.
Thank-you to Dr. J.M. Archibald for your dedicated care and compassion as well as the “amazing” nurses and staff on 4-A; An Cala and E.R. units of the Cape Breton Regional hospital. Special thanks to Continuing Care and Homecare Services for making it possible for Gerry to remain at home with Kelly’s ongoing love and care.
Online condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.pierfuneralhome.com.
