83, Whitney Pier
On Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, another angel received her wings. Mary Ann Lucille ‘Lucy’ Fitzgerald peacefully passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by her side.
Born in Glace Bay, Lucy was the daughter of the late Herbert and Lucille (McNeil) MacDonald.
Lucy was known for being caring, loving and a woman of few words. She loved bowling, darts, and cards with friends and family, but loved to dance more than all. She loved to write messages to her family and friends in her journal. Lucy would love to say to her family that she, “loves the bones off you”.
It is with sadness that Lucy leaves behind her two sons, Russell (Sherry) and John (Cheryl); stepchildren, Mike and Colleen; grandchildren, Meranda, Jill (Michael) Landry, Nicholas (Jessica), Megan and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Isaac; sister, Norma Hurley; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her husband, John Thomas Fitzgerald; sister, and brother-in-law, Armeta and George Campbell and a brother, Ronald MacDonald.
Visitation for the late Mary Ann Lucille ‘Lucy’ Fitzgerald will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Greg Myatt, Dr. Anne Francis, the nurses and staff on 4B and palliative care, VON and the staff of City Homemakers for making Lucy comfortable in her life and last days. Our gratitude cannot be expressed enough.
Donations in memory of Lucy may be made to Society of Little Flower, 1313 N Frontage Rd, Darien, IL, 60651, USA.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
