We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, John Henry Axworthy on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born in Sydney, John was the son of the late Herman and Margaret (Cusack) Axworthy.

John was a hard worker for he was a truck driver and mechanic for many years. He loved the outdoors especially, hunting and fishing with his best friend and son, Reg. John will be missed by all who knew him.

John is survived by his wife, Gladys of 54 years; sons, Reg (Anita), Francis (Mary) and John; granddaughter, Cassandra as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his daughter, Margaret Ann, stepmother, Annie Burke, brothers, William, Frank and Pat.

Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering to celebrate the life of John will take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of John may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
