It is with sadness we announce the passing of Robert Daniel MacNeil on Dec. 26, 2013, at home.
Born in Sydney, Robert was the son of the late John Hugh and Jenny (Jamieson) MacNeil.
Robert was raised in the Pier. He worked in the open hearth at Sydney Steel Plant before making a life and career with the Canadian Armed Forces. After leaving the Armed Forces due to medical, Robert made his home in Upper Leitches Creek. He was a kind man who was known to help anyone in need before himself. He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, grand-uncle, brother and friend. Robert had the biggest heart in the world when it came to his grandchildren. He served the country that he loved. Robert will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Robert leaves behind the love of his life, soul mate, Dianne Harvey; daughter, April (Ambrose) Kennedy; sons, Robert Jr. and David; five grandchildren; sisters, Rose Marie (Paul) MacIsaac and June (Karl) Hall; brothers, Hughie, Anthony ‘Tony’, Neil (Shelly), Kenny and John Harvey (Wendy); as well as all his nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his brother, Russell and sister, Charlotte Burke.
Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Robert Daniel MacNeil will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12-1 p.m. with service to follow at 1 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. A private family interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date.
Donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
