90, Pleasant Bay

Neil Edward MacKinnon, 90, Pleasant Bay, Inverness County, passed away Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Cheticamp, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cape North, Victoria County, Neil was the eldest son of the late John Malcolm and Keziah (Strickland) MacKinnon.

Neil began working at an early age and retired from Cape Breton Highlands National Park in 1987 after 31 years of service. Neil loved his family, enjoyed his friends and working outdoors. His great-grandchildren were very special to him. Neil will be remembered by his family and friends for his kind compassionate ways.

Neil is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Timmons; daughter, Doreen (Wayne) MacKinnon, Pleasant Bay; son, Wilson, at home; grandchildren, Angela (Gilles) Poirier, Cheticamp, Adrian (Andrea), Pleasant Bay; great-grandchildren, Jillian, Jensen, Caylum and Samara; brother, Thomas (Diane), Halifax; and Matthew Mattie, Tracadie, who Neil thought of as a grandson.

Besides his parents, Neil was predeceased by his brothers, Herman, Gordon and Robert and sister-in-law, Lilian.

Graveside service to celebrate the life of Neil Edward MacKinnon will be held on Thursday, Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. in Pleasant Bay Cemetery, Pleasant Bay, with Rev. Margie Wood officiating.
Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Neil may be made to The Lung Association of Nova Scotia or St. Andrew’s United Church, Pleasant Bay.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
