67, Whitney Pier
We regret to announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend Fernand ‘Frenchie’ Guyomard on Sept. 5, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Fernand was born in St. Pierre et Miquelon on June 30, 1944, but he called Whitney Pier home since 1972. He was the son of the late Francis and Ida (Tobin) Guyomard.
He worked as a marine engineer in his earlier years and was employed at Devco until his injury. He could always be found working on cars, trucks or just anything with a motor. Frenchie was known for driving through Whitney Pier with his Tim Hortons coffee in hand; and he loved nothing better than a good argument.
He was everyone’s father, papa, brother and friend. It didn’t matter who needed help, how far away they were or what the problem was, he was there for you! He will be missed by all who knew him.
Fernand was loved by all who knew him and he will always be remembered by his wife of 40 years, Shirley (Cromwell); son, Kevin (Michelle MacKinnon); daughters, Susie (David Yates) and Cathy (Enzo Mollica); grandsons, Christopher, Michael (who he called his boys) and Emilio; granddaughters, Ashley, Brianna, Jenna, Airanna and great-granddaughter, Nevaeh; step granddaughters, Cheryl and Ella; his extended family, The Cromwells; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and too many friends to mention (you all know who you are), all from Sydney. He is also survived by two sisters, Yvonne (Charles Mahe) and Francoise Briand, St. Pierre et Miquelon.
Visitation for the late Fernand ‘Frenchie’ Guyomard will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, Sept. 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Fernand’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date in Eastmount Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
Donations in Fernand’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
