It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Jamie (MacIver) Gillis of Whycocomagh Portage on April 18, 2011 at Inverary Manor, Inverness.
Born in Little Narrows on November 14, 1918, Jamie was the daughter of the late Dan and Jessie (Macleod) MacIver of Portage.
For Many years Jamie operated the Gillis Cove post office. She was treasurer of Orangedale Presbyterian Church and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Jamie as a faithful member of the Orangedale Presbyterian Church all her life.
Over the years, Jamie and her husband, Alex had company visiting from all parts of the country, near and far. There was always great conversation and of course, you could not leave without lunch (a meal). Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her knitting kept their hands and feet cozy for many years.
Jamie is survived by daughters, Mary (Carl) Campbell, Iron Mines; and Sandra (David) MacDonald, Inverness; daughter in –law, Joanne Gillis; grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Ivor, Cyndle and Dylan MacDonald, Ryan and Amy Gillis and Dollie, Kirsten and Angus Campbell; and great-grandchild, Cooper.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Alex; son, Angus; brother, Ivor ‘Buddy’ and a sister, Ruth.
Visitation for the late Jamie Gillis will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Orangedale Presbyterian Church, Orangedale.
Funeral service to celebrate the life of Jamie Gillis will be held on Thursday, April 21 at 2 p.m. in Orangedale Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Burial will take place in the Gillis Cove Cemetery, Gillis Cove.
Donations in memory of Jamie may be made to Orangedale Presbyterian Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
For the past few years, Jamie has lived at eh Inverary Manor where she was loved and cared for like none other. Thanks to the staff for their compassion and care.
