Our father, George Anthony Mizzi has left this world to join our mother, Frances the love of his life on Tuesday, April 12, 2011.
Dad was born in Sydney, June 3, 1924. He was the son of the late Salvo (formerly of Malta) and Frances (Lyons) Mizzi.
Dad worked hard at Sydney Steel for 42 years. His wife and family were his world. His strong faith was his guide in life. He was a good friend to his friends and neighbours, the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather in the world. Dad was a lifelong blood donor and supportive of other charitable organizations.
He is survived by his daughters, Valerie (Alex) MacDonald, Sydney, Georgina (David) Ott, Sydney; son, Gregory (Susan) Mizzi, Burlington, Ont.; sister-in-law, Aggie (Everett) Hussey, Grimsby, Ont.; daughter-in-law, Martha Mizzi; sisters, Mary Ferguson, Sydney, Cecilia Marusiak, Sydney, Eileen Baldwin, Sydney; brother, Edward Mizzi (Annie), Hamilton, Ont.; grandchildren, Chantal, Justin, Hector Dan, Angela, Mark, Jonathan, Samantha, Andrea, Laura, Cassandra, Stephanie, Heather, James, Jocelyn, and great-grandchildren, Tres, Tevin, Damian, Brandon, Beau, James, Matthew, Haidyn, Caleb and Liam.
Besides his wife and parents, Dad was predeceased by son, Kenneth Mizzi, sisters, Melita Newton, Ontario, Ester Meloche, Ontario, Rita Coleman, Sydney, and Margaret Mizzi, Sydney.
Visitation for the late George Anthony Mizzi will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, April 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate George’s life will be held Friday, April 15 at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. Reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in George’s memory may be made to Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
