75, Hillsborough
Willard Edward Smith, 75, of Hillsborough, Inverness County, passed away on March 28, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Inverness on Sept. 5, 1935, he was the son of the late Henry and Irene (Ross) Smith.
Edward is survived by his two sisters, Sheila (Ross) MacKay of Campbellton, P.E.I. and Sally Smith of Hillsborough, Cape Breton; as well as many nieces and nephews. At this time the family would like to extend a special thank you to friends, Angus D. MacDonald and Coralee MacLean for their care and support during Edward illness.
Besides his parents, Edward was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth.
Visitation for the late Willard Edward Smith will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the former Hillsborough United Church, Hillsborough. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Willard Edward Smith will be held on Friday April 1 at 3 p.m. at the former Hillsborough United Church with Pastor Maggie Plant officiating. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery, Hillsborough.
Family flowers only, donations in memory of Edward may be made to Kidney Foundation, Elmwood Cemetery Fund or to the Hillsborough Church Preservation Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
