46, Sydney
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Lawrence (Larry) Phillips, regret to announce his passing on February 17, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Hugh and Fredricka (Keesen) Phillips.
Larry is survived by his companion of 25 years, Margie Parr and their two children, Larry (Red) and Mobanda, both of Sydney. Larry is also survived by seven brothers, Harry (Mary), Donnie, Hilton (Junior)(Trish), Wendell (Bip), Melvyn, Johnny and Glenn Phillips; and six sisters, Hughina (Dave), Linda (Greg), Patsy (Allan), Lyda, Benita (Danny) and Mary Anita. Larry leaves a large extended family who are left to mourn his passing, including many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Larry was predeceased by a sister, Brenda.
Larry will be remembered as a lover of the outdoors. He especially enjoyed taking trips to “the lake” with family and friends.
Visitation for the late Larry Phillips will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Friday, Feb. 19, from 2–4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held in the funeral home in the All Faith Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Maggie Coleman officiating with cremation to follow.
Interment will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Larry’s memory may be made to An Cala unit of Cape Breton Regional Hospital
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
We shall meet with many a loved one;
That was torn from our embrace.
We shall listen to their voices;
And behold them face to face.
