We, the family of Jeannette Lucas regretfully announce the passing of our dear mother on Monday, September 7, 2009, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Jeannette was born in Guysborough, Nova Scotia on June 29, 1928 and spent most of her life in Whitney Pier.

She was a member of Trinity United Church, Whitney Pier. She was devoted to her family and was self-employed as a housekeeper. Jeannette would always be ready for a good game of cards.

She will be sadly missed by her family and all that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Surviving are her two daughters, Karen King and Esther Lucas; four sons, John, Curtis, William Jr., Donald and step-son, Roland Calander. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Jeannette was predeceased by her husband, William Lucas; two brothers, Leslie and Howie Mintus and two sisters, Lila Bruleigh and Mable Mintus.

We the family would like to extend special thanks to Palliative Care, VON, Home Care and friends for the exceptional care our mother received.

Visitation for the late Jeannette Lucas will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Road (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, September 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Jeannette’s life will be held at the funeral home in the All Faith Chapel on Friday, September 11 at 11a.m. with Rev. Maggie Coleman officiating. Interment will take place on Saturday at 11a.m. in the Forest Haven Memorial Garden, Sydney.

Memorial donations in Jeanette’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction to the Pier Community Funeral Home.
